Ajzensztadt David

David Ajzensztadt (1890-1942): composer and conductor. Was associated with the Great Synagogue in Tłomackie in Warsaw, where he was the music director of liturgy and the founder and conductor of the choir. The choir had a wide repertoire, including the world classics: works by Bach, Handel, and Haydn. Ajzensztadt frequently performed at the Warsaw Philharmonic, and recorded for the Polish Radio. During the war he led the choir in the Warsaw ghetto. His daughter Mary Ajzensztadt known as the "ghetto’s nightingale” was a well-known singer. They died Treblinka in 1942.

The term was created within the framework of the project Zapisywanie świata żydowskiego w Polsce [recording the Jewish environment in Poland], whose author is Anka Grupińska, a well-known Polish journalist and writer, specializing in the modern history of the Polish Jews. The project, initiated in 2006 by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, consists in recording interviews with Polish Jews from all generations.
