Volunteer

The Museum of the History of Polish Jews is looking for volunteers or interns who would like to take part in the ‘Virtual Shtetl’ multimedia project in the following fields:

  •  translations (English, Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Hebrew and German);
  • updating information on the ‘Virtual Shtetl’ portal (including research into state archives, regional museums, Internet websites; writing historical articles; adding photographs and short descriptions of various objects/places presented on the portal; writing articles for the Journal section);
  • conducting and transcribing interviews;
  •  the promotion of the project (including the correspondence and co-operation with foreign individuals and institutions [local communities, museums, offices and bureaus]; seeking potential partners [institutions and experts]; writing short reports/articles about current events, editing the website of the Museum on social network websites [Facebook, Twitter, etc.];
  •  field volunteering (including trips to the places where there are Jewish cultural monuments [usually according to a trip route scheduled beforehand, travel costs will be reimbursed by us], collecting information, taking photographs, designating the geo-location on the Virtual Shtetl map);
  •  volunteer initiatives – we are open to any suggestions and ideas which you put forward :)

It is possible to work in our office and/or to work from home. We will provide you with the opportunity to broaden your knowledge of the culture and history of Polish Jews. You will also learn how a large multimedia project operates “behind the scenes”. Furthermore, you will have the rare opportunity of working with and being a part of a dynamic, international team. Upon completion of your internship, you will be awarded an internship certificate and a reference letter. In the case of internships, we execute relevant agreements with universities.

If you are interested in working with us as a volunteer or as an intern, please send us your application (comprising your CV and a covering letter explaining why and how you would like to work with us) to sztetl@jewishmuseum.org.pl.
