The Aftermath of the Holocaust - a conference in Jerusalem

The International Institute for Holocaust Research Diana Zborowski Center for the Study of the Aftermath of the Shoah organizes the International Conference on ‘The Aftermath of the Holocaust: Poland 1944-2010’ in Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem on 3-6 of October.

Introductory remarks will be delivered by Zeev Mankowitz, Head of the Diana Zborowski Center and Avner Shalev, Chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate. Feliks Tych, Jewish Historical Institute (ŻIH), will introduce the subjects of the conference and Jan Tomasz Gross, Princeton University, will give the keynote address: The Record of the Wartime Years and Cardinal Questions in Researching the Aftermath of the Holocaust in Poland.

During numerous sessions, scholars will discuss such topics as: the attitude of Polish society towards Jews who survived the Holocaust, the attempts to revive Jewish social life in Poland after II WW and the commemoration of the Holocaust victims. The lectures will be delivered by: Eleonora Bergman, August Grabski (Jewish Historical Institute), Albert Stankowski (Museum of the History of Polish Jews), Monika Adamczyk-Garbowska (Maria Curie-Skłodowska University), Joanna Nalewajko-Kulikov (Polish Academy of Sciences), Edyta Gawron, Magdalena Ruta (Jagiellonian University), Alina Skibińska (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum),Sara Bender and Marcos Silber (Haifa University).

A meeting of researchers from different countries will enable to answer the question how consciousness and memory of the Holocaust affect the next generation of Poles and Jews.
