Discovering cultures and tastes

On Friday Bodzanów invited people to take part in a fascinating journey showing the pre-war, multicultural aspect of the town. The visitors had an opportunity to taste some delicious Haman Ears cookies, learn how to weave baskets and shape clay pots. They also found out what the communes of Bodzanów and Słubice, divided by the Vistula river, had actually in common. The event, held for the second time, was a part of the Festival of Tastes and Cultures.

This year the festival was strictly connected with a project entitled “ The Two Shores”. Its name refers to Bodzanów and Słubice, two communes divided by the Vistula river which has both separated and united people living in the area. On the occasion of the festival numerous students presented a program concerning Bodzanów and Słubice’s multicultural past. Middle school pupils prepared tasting portions of Purim poppy seed cookies baked during one of the most festive Jewish holidays. On a special stall one could also see the effects of co-operation with a school in Portugal.

The event was ended with a performance of “Moniek Przepiórko and others”, a special guest of the Jewish Cabaret and the Jewish Theater.
