The President of Poland wished the Jewish community a Happy New Year and Yom Kippur

On Friday, September 17, after the sunset, Yom Kippur began – the most important Jewish religious festival. On this occasion, as well as on the start of the new year 5771, the Jewish communities were greeted by Bronisław Komorowski, the president of Poland. In his letter addressed to Piotr Kadlčik, the chairman of the board of the Association of Jewish Religious Communities, the President said that “Jews have been present in the history of Poland from the core beginning. This history, characterized by suffering and drama, is at the same time beautiful and glorious. It makes us proud. Us meaning both Poles and Jews. The Jewish impact on Polish culture, art, science and economic development should be highly appreciated and properly commemorated”. The President hoped that the new year 5771 would be full of happiness and prosperity. He also cited the fragment of a Yom Kippur prayer: May you have a good sealing of your destiny in the book of life.

Piotr Kadlčik, the chairman of the board of the Association of Jewish Religious Communities, thanked for the memory and the good words. He also gave the President’s regards to all members of the Jewish communities in Poland.
