The opening of the historical route on Thursday marked the beginning of the Days of Majdanek in Lublin, a series of events and meetings commemorating thousands of victims of the Majdanek concentration camp. The Days of Majdanek are held every 65 years. This year, they started with the opening of the historical route and the exhibition of post-war posters. Their finale is the Holy Mass for the souls of the dead and murdered in the concentration camp at Majdanek. It takes place on Sunday at 11 o’clock next to the Monument to Struggle and Martyrdom.

The new historical route "Konzentrationslager Lublin 1941-1944" consists of 12 informative plaques in three languages: Polish, Hebrew and English. They can be found on the territory of the camp and contain information about its characteristic spots and objects as well as numerous archive photographs. In former years, similar plaques were placed inside the barracks where gas chambers, baths and cremation furnaces had been located.

The new route winds mainly in the areas behind the buildings. The selection square has been marked (formerly only guided visitors could find it out). Also, the prisoners’ fields have been described so that one knows what events happened and what nationalities were the people staying there. Several plaques have also been placed next to the dykes where executions took place. Formerly there was only the obelisk commemorating the mass murder of Jews in 1943. However, it should be remembered that Jews from the Lublin Castle, coming to the camp during its final days, were also shot there.
