Vilnius between the wars

International Forum Geschichtswerkstatt Europa 2010 is to take place In Vilnius from 14th to 19th of September. The subject of the forum is: Vilnius between the wars. Jewish Culture, Lithuanian Society, Polish State and Belarusian Minority. It is organized in order to explore the treasures of cultures and religions which used to shape Vilnius and make the individuals aware of the Jewish contribution to Polish, Lithuanian and European cultures. The lectures will be delivered by famous intellectuals and prominent historians like Tomas Venclova, David Fishman, Alfred Senn and Ceslovas Laurinavicius. Moreover, the tragic fate of Vilnius citizens during the Second World War will be commemorated. The participants of the Forum are set to visit Jewish Museum, Museum of Genocide Victims and Memorial Place in Paneriai

Geschichtswerkstatt Europa is a program of the Foundation EVZ addressing the issue of European remembrance. An International Forum is organized by the Global and European Studies Institute at the University of Leipzig in the cooperation with Lithuanian Institute of History, the Centre for Studies of the Culture and History of East European Jews, the Vilnius Yiddish Institute and History Faculty of University of Vilnius.
