Medal of the Polish Righteous

Personal databases and accounts, films, photographs and recordings can be found in the newest version of the portal “Polish Righteous”, run by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

The portal Polish Righteous commemorates and honors all Poles who saved the lives of Jews during the Second World War. The website is a part of a project which has been in progress since 2007. Łucja Koch, a coordinator of the program, underlines that the meetings with the Righteous are a very important part of the project. Biographic interviews are conducted by well trained researchers. Thanks to those interviews one could look at the history with the eyes of its participants and the history is not something abstract any more but becomes the fate of a particular men.

Another aim of this project is to develop educational and informative activities in order to underline the phenomenon of the Righteous and ethical attitudes which they presented. Currently, there is a pilot program of tours round Żoliborz (Warsaw’s district) and the Day of the Righteous at Polish schools, which enable students to meet people who saved the lives of Jews. Thanks to the program Polin Webfusion, youth from Israel can also meet Polish Righteous.

The portal, in its new version, is more functional. Now, it is much easier to find biographies and broaden knowledge about the saving and saved ones. There is also a special site concerning Irena Sendler. It is possible to make a virtual tour and watch the memorabilias. Moreover, internauts are allowed to send their own recordings of some stories. By all that, the portal becomes a place of meetings between the survivors and the Righteous.
