Anti-Semitism uprooted

Ilustracja

Kamil Kuskowski’s two works from the „Anti-Semitism uprooted” series can be seen in Warsaw Kordegarda (at 3 Gałczyńskiego Street) on the exhibition “Miasto Łódź/FAB”. The paintings are minimalistic, as most of the works by Kamil Kuskowski. You can see almost invisible, anti-Semitic inscriptions on white canvases. He uses such means of expression so that the whole is at the edge of visibility.

Kamil Kuskowski claims that Łódź was the reason why he decided to take up this topic. He has been living there for 15 years and every day he stumbles across some manifestations of anti-Semitism on the streets like some inscriptions on the walls. “We cannot be indifferent while something like that occurs”, said Kuskowski, “Especially, when it originates in stupidity”. The place, Łódź, has a key meaning in Kuskowski’s works. “There is no other city in which one could notice such a range of this phenomenon”, adds the artist, “However, Łódź is also a city where social action “Colorful tolerance” (“Kolorowa Tolerancja”) takes place”.
