Żyd Niemalowany w Innym Wymiarze. (An Unpainted Jew in Another Dimension)

An exhibition The Faces and the World of the Eastern European Jews. Lithographs of Hermann Struck from the collection Żyd Niemalowany (An Unpainted Jew) is to be opened in Białystok on 2th of September 2010. The vernissage will take place in the Center of Culture in Białystok on 2th of September 2010 at 7 p.m. (in the foyer of the cinema “Forum”, Legionowa Str. 5). The exhibition will be open every day between 1 and 8 p.m. from the 3rd to the 26th of September 2010.

Herman Struck was a son of assimilated Jews from Berlin, but he was a dedicated Zionist. The art was his main occupation. During the First World War he was a German soldier and he got to the Eastern Borderlands of the former Poland, where he met the community of East-European Jews. This community differed significantly from the one in which he was born. Fascinated by those Jews, he drew a series of their portraits.

The vernissage of the exhibition is one of a series of events of the 4th Cultural Festival of Podlasie Inny Wymiar – Sąsiedzi. Współistniejemy obok siebie. The festival is accompanied by the second edition of the Days of Jewish Culture in Białystok. It includes concerts, lectures, and workshops. There will be also a performance of the Theatre NN (Lublin) Tajbełe i Demon and Dariusz Haponik’s exhibition Kamienne Tablice Historii (Stone Historical Plaques).
