The opening of the exhibition “Stories from the town of the blue color. Jews from Żyrardów and the neighboring towns” (Z dziejów miasteczka w kolorze niebieskim. O społeczności żydowskiej Żyrardowa i okolic”) took place on 1st of September 2010 at 1 p.m. in the Western Masovia Museum in Żyrardów (Muzeum Mazowsza Zachodniego w Żyrardowie).

Justyna Żak, the curator of the exhibition, said that there are not only articles of everyday use but also religious cult objects and artistic craftsmanship. Moreover, the paintings of famous Jewish artists, who worked in Poland, are also displayed. The exhibits come from many places. The Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw helped in preparing the exhibition by borrowing a part of its own collections and providing the honorable sponsorship of the exhibition. The museums in Łódź, Lublin, Brzeziny, Krośniewice, Kutno and Pabianice were also very helpful. In addition, the museum in Żyrardów obtained some photographs from the New York archives. Many descendants of Jews from Żyrardów sent some photos via e-mail.

One can see some works of famous artists Artur Markowicz and Leopold Gottlieb. The exhibition is recommended for everyone who is interested in the Jewish culture and the history of Western Masovia and Żyrardów.
