Crime instruments in Auschwitz

More than 150 medical items enriched the collections of the Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau. It is very likely that they were used at Auschwitz to the criminal experiments.

Tools were delivered to the museum by a collector who received them from the city dweller. He had found them near the train station in Oswiecim after liberation of the camp in 1945. Medical devices, which were found, are mainly gynecological and surgical instruments. It is believed that the tools belonged to SS Brigadefuehrer Professor Carlo Cauberg, who conducted research on sterilization of women in block 10 of Auschwitz. However, there is a possibility that three other Nazi doctor, Eduard Wirths, Horst Schumann and Bruno Weber, also used them in their experiments in the camp.

Tools and boxes to its sterilization will soon undergo restoration. Curators are considering placing them in an exhibition dedicated to the criminal experiments which is to be part of the new core exhibition.
