Outcasts. Jewish Partisans of Belarus, directed by Alexander Stupnikov, BELARUS, 2009, 53 min.

The documentary "Ghetto jménem Baluty" tells the story about the Jews from Prague, who were sent to Litzmannstadt Getto in Lodz in 1941. Most of them were murdered in the death camps, including in Auschwitz. 274 Jews returned to Prague. In the movie, the story is interspersed with the current picture of poverty and alcoholism in Baluty. The director shows the analogies between current and former Baluty. Although the circumstances are different, there is still the struggle for survival.

”Outcasts” is about Jewish partisan groups in Belarus. Interestingly, the number of Jewish partisans in Belarus amounted from fifteen to thirty thousands. In addition, several uprisings took place in the ghettos in Belarus. The movie show how Jewish partisan groups were established and how they were getting on with Belarusians. The existence of the Jewish partisans is important not only for the history of this country, but also for understanding the history of resistance in the context of the European Holocaust.
