The wall of the Old Jewish Cemetery in Ślężna Street in Wrocław is in a terrible condition. Is it posiible to renew it?

The action "What a shame! What is Wrocław ashamed of" ("Ale obciach! Czego wstydzi się Wrocław" has just started. The residents of Wrocław have been encouraged to point places which, according to them, need an immediate renovation. Małgorzata Tankiweicz, who lives in the neighborhood of the Old Jewish Cemetery in Ślężna Street, has written about the wall surrounding the cemetery. Falling plaster, scratches...All these spoils this worthy and undoubtedly magical place.

Ewa Pluta, the Speaker of the City Museum, which is responsible for the cemetery, says that the wall will be repainted next year. The amount of donations which the museum has got from the city this year is 6 million PLN, however, these money are aslo for maintaining many other places: the Royal Palace, the Arsenal, the City Museum, a part of the drapers' hall (Sukiennice) and the storehouse on Wolności Square (Plac Wolności).

It is very hard to say how much the renovation of the cemetery would cost. Ewa Pluta cannot estimate the cost of the restoration of a single gravestone. "It all depends on many aspects. The inscriptions on some of the matzevot were gold which makes it much more expensive", she explains.
