Ida Haendel, a world famous violinist of Jewish origin, will be the heroine of a documentary "Wiem, skąd jestem" ("I know, where I am from").

Ida Haendel was born in 1928 in Chełm Lubelski. When she was four she just could play some just melodies. Being the youngest participant of the First Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Warsaw (I Konkurs Skrzypcowy im. Henryka Wieniawskiego), she was the first among the Poles! As a result of this success, many famous violin virtuosos decided to give her lessons. She was taught by Mieczysław Michałowicz in Warsaw, George Enescu in Paris, Carl Flesch in Berlin and London.

Ida Heandel performed all over the world. She had a tournee in China with the London Symphony Orchestra. She played with the most famous musicians and conductors, e.g. Arthur Rubinstein and Vladimir Ashkenazy. She performed several times in Poland and added splendor to the visit of the Pope Benedict XVI in Auschwitz-Birkenau. Together with a band "Capella Cracoviensis" she played in her home town, Chełm. She plays Stradivarius violin from 1696 and lives now in Miami Beach in Florida.

The documentary "Wiem, skąd jestem" is to show Ida Haenedl's connections with the area of Lublin. Surely enough, a part of the shots will be taken in Chełm. The production is financed by Telewizja Polska (the Polish Television) and the municipality of lubelski voivodeship.
