Dom Festival is to take place in Tykocin from 27th to 29th of August. The inspiration of the event is the story by Bruno Schulz who described the world of small, pre-war shops in his novel "Cinnamon Shops". This world will be restored in the Golden Street in Tykocin.

Before the war, Golden Street was full of life. It was the center of commerce and crafts of the town. There was a number of shops and restaurants. During the festival the street is to regain its pre-war character for one night. The outlook of the street as well as network of shops and workshops will be reconstructed. The motto of the event is 'night trading' since this phenomenon played key role in the story by Bruno Schulz, 'Night of the Great Season'. The writer, who was inspired by the exceptional multi-ethnic culture of the small town, is the patron of the festival.

In 1939, in Tykocin had 3,000 inhabitants. Jews constituted about 50% of the population. Most of them lived near so-called Jewish market in the western part of the district Kaczorowo. Few relics of the multi-cultural past of Tykocin survived. One can admire the synagogue built in 17th century, the Talmud house and the house in which Marek Zamenhof (father of Ludwik Zamenhof, Esperanto creator) used to live.

More information (in Polisj) at the website of the Festival.
