Talmud in Polish

Ilustracja
The Babylonian Talmud will soon be available in Polish. On this occasion, we warmly welcome you to a series of lectures given by Rabbi Sacha Pecaric, the translator and editor of the volume. The lectures are to take place in Krakow JCC (Miodowa Street 24) on the 16th, 17th and 18th of August.

Because of its volume, specific organization of content and intellectual complexity, the Talmud is rarely translated into foreign languages. Rabbi Pecaric explains ‘This publication is the first Polish edition of the Talmud, which presents specific Talmudic problems and Talmudic thinking in a comprehensive, concise, deep and true way. It approximates the great intellectual tradition, which is still alive and constantly studied. Moreover, this book provides a database of Jewish religious education. Without the Talmud, understanding of Jewish religion, culture and history is incomplete’.

A huge, 750-page volume will appear in bookshops in February 2010. It will contain the translation of three chapters of the Talmud, a comprehensive commentary, dictionaries and diagrams as well as lectures on the Talmud recorded on MP3 and CD. Rabbi Pecaric reckons that this publication will change the understanding of the Talmud and Talmudic thinking in Poland, like Tor Pardes Lauder has changed the way of perception of the Torah.
