Concerts in Sejny: Cukunft and the Sejny Theatre Klezmer Orchestra.

The Sejny Theatre Klezmer Orchestra is formed by young people connected to the “Borderland -- of Arts, Cultures and Nations” Centre and Foundations. The Orchestra first performed a few years ago, when “Dybuk” by Szymon An-ski was staged. Until now, another generation of Sejny musicians has come into play.

During their concerts in 2010, the Orchestra will present traditional klezmer music, spiced with melodies of Central and Eastern European nations -- and also with experimental tones of jazz-rock origin. Songs in Yiddish and Ladino will be performed.

White Synagogue, Time: 8 PM, Tickets: 15 zł – regular, 10 zł – concessionary

CUKUNFT in Sejny for the second time! On August 4, 2010 at 8.00 p.m. the band will perform at the Sejny Jazz Cooperative (former Talmudic School).

CUKUNFT The band Cukunft (‘the future’ in Yiddish) was established by guitarist Raphael Rogiński (also performing in the Shofar trio and as a soloist). The idea of the project is the continuation of the Jewish musical tradition of Eastern Europe with all its richness and in all its forms and genres.

In its original line-up a few years back, Cukunft prepared and performed the pieces of Mordechaj Gebirtig (b. 1877, d. 1942), who lived and composed in Cracow during the interwar period. In their subsequent line-up, which featured a basoon and percussion, Cukunft worked with pieces by Polish composers to the words of Jewish poets (Icyk Manger, Mosche Shneur, David Beigelman and others) as well as with music composed by Raphael Rogiński.
