Name the Polish satellite!

The first Polish satellite will be placed in the orbit in 2011. Will it be called Lem, Heweliusz or Ary Szternfeld – this will be known by the end of August. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education invites to take part in the competition for inventing the name for the satellite.

Lem is the leader, however it is chased by Ary Szternfeld, which was proposed by Sieradz, on the other hand Gdansk choses Heweliusz. Other names are: "Mr Twardowski", "Starlet", "Polonia Aquila", "Polonia Uniwersum".

The first Polish satellite will be run into space in 2011, 2 years later there will be another one. Both satellites will be built within the programme BRITE.PL,for which realization The Ministry of Science and Higher Education gives 14,2 mln zł. The works on it lead scientists from The Space Investigation Center PAN and Kopernik Astronomic Center PAN. Poles were offered a help with this project by their university colleagues from Vienna, Toronto, Montreal and Graz.

The satellite, for which the name has been looked for, will have a special task: it will help in investigating the the construction of the inside of the shinnest star in the galaxy. It will have to examine 286 objects. The satellite will be run into orbit from the spacespot Sriharikota in India.
