Plaques commemorating the pre-war companies that belonged to both Christians and Jews, have recently appeared on the streets of Sosnowiec and Będzin. This original way of recognising the history of these cities is a part of the project "Hurtownia Manufaktura”, which is pioneered by the foundation “Brama Cukermana”. Employees of the foundation discovered archival materials and old registers which enabled them to discover the location of pre-war companies. In an effort to revive local history and to remember what once occurred in places that have completely changed their destiny, approximately 90 shops, organizations, warehouses and wholesalers were sought.

Patterned after old advertising signboards, the plaques have been fixed on 27 houses in Będzin and on 20 houses in Sosnowiec. Pre-war ads were elegant, ordered and decorated with ornaments. Similarly the artwork of these plaques recalls the style of the pre-war era. The project “Hurtownia Manufaktury” is intended to encourage the inhabitants of Będzin and Sosnowiec to consider the multicultural history and merchant-trade traditions of the Zagłębie region, as well as to conduct their own historical research. In addition, thanks to the project, Będzin and Sosnowiec have become tourist attractions.
