Twenty Five Israeli’s are taking part in the seminar „Auschwitz in collective memory in Poland and around the world – The memory of Auschwitz and its meaning to Jews and Poles”. This seminar was organized by The State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau and The Institute of Yad Vashem.

Those who attend the seminar are employees of Yad Vashem, museum guides and tourist guides who formerly came to Poland with Israeli teenagers; as well as teachers from other Israeli education centres. During the seminar, Israeli’s are to visit former camps in Auschwitz, Jawischowitz and Belzec. They will attend lectures and workshops dedicated to the history of German-occupied Poland. Moreover, they will learn about such topics as: differences between Polish and Jewish collective memory, Polish-Jewish relations and Polish history after 1989.

Since 1993, more then 270 educators from Israel have already taken part in seminars organized by The State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau. At the invitation of Yad Vashem, Polish teachers, priests and museum employees come to Jerusalem to participate in a similar project. They learn about Jewish history and the Holocaust.

Presently, the International Education Centre of the State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau is commencing a recruitment for the seminar, “Judaism – History and Culture of Polish Jews – The Holocaust”. This program includes a twelve-day course in Yad Vashem.

Detailed information can be found at the website of the Museum.
