Jan Karski

Jan Karski, a legendary courier of the Polish Underground State who informed the world about the Holocaust, died ten years ago on the 13th of July. To commemorate this hero, the Museum of Lodz has organized a showing of the documentary movie “Moja Misja” (“My Mission”), and also a guided tour of Karski’s bureau. Karski, who was born in Lodz, bequeathed a rich collection of Polish, American and Israeli documents, photographs, letters, medals and decorations, as well as publications describing his extraordinary life.

After the movie, there will be a discussion on the topic, “Jan Karski’s mission – testimony to the truth which nobody wanted to know”. The most important facts from Karski’s biography will be reviewed. In 1942, Karski entered the Warsaw ghetto twice in disguise. Afterwards, he reached the transit camp in Izbica, which was the final destination before the death camp in Belzec. Karski’s report about the Holocaust was sent to the Polish, English and American governments.

The entrance for the panel discussion is free.
