The promotion of Menachem Begin's memoire

Jewish Historical Institute has a pleasure of inviting you to the promotion of the Polish edition of Menachem Begin's memoire: "White Nights: The story of a prisoner in Russia". The meeting is to take place in Blue Skyscraper at Plac Bankowy in Warsaw on 8th of July at 18.00.

The speakers are: Prof. Arye Naor of Ben Gurion University, who was the closest collaborator of Begin and the secretary in his government from 1977 to 1981, and Dr Laurence Weinbaum of the World Jewish Congress.

Menachem Begin (1913-1992) was born in Brest-Litovsk. He graduated Law at the University of Warsaw. In 1929 he became a member of Zionist movement. In 1940 he was arrested by NKWD and sent to the gulag. In 1943 he arrived to Palestine with Polish Army led by gen. Anders. He fought for independent Israel. From 1977 to 1983 he was a prime minister. In 1978 he was awarded by Nobel Prize for Peace together with the president of Egypt, Anwar Sadat.
