New edition of Eliasz Rajzman’s poetry

On Thursday, a ceremony of summing up the project “Eliasz Rajzman – a Jewish poet and resident of Szczecin by choice” will be held in Szczecin.

The meeting will begin on 28 May 2015, at 5.00 p. m., at the Auditorium of Książnica Pomorska (entrance at 15/16 Podgórna Street). The program includes the presentation of a volume of poetry titled The Burning Moss, the opening of the Jubilee Exhibition of Eliasz Rajzman and a concert of Danuta Stankiewicz.

The volume The Burning Moss (Mech płonący) contains verses which have already been translated into Polish as well as new translations unknown to the Polish reader yet.

Eliasz Rajzman was one of the last poets residing in Poland who wrote in Yiddish. So far, the majority of his poems have not been translated into Polish. He was also an actor and a playwright. His dramas were staged at the amateur theatre at the Szczecin Branch of the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland.

Eliasz Rajzman has spent half of his lifetime – the years between 1949 and 1975 – in Szczecin. This year, the 40th anniversary of his death was commemorated.

The meeting is organized by the Social and Cultural Association of Jews in Poland, Stanisław Staszic Książnica Pomorska Centre and the Society of the Friends of Książnica Pomorska.
