The bimah is almost ready

Today has marked the end of the first stage of the Bima project. This is the last phase of the Gwoździec Re!konstrukcja workshops carried out by the Jewish Historical Institute Association, Handshouse Studio and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. The bimah will be included in the Museum’s core exhibition under a lavishly embellished replica of the roof of the Gwoździec synagogue, which has been reconstructed by volunteers and experts throughout construction and painting workshops in 2011 and 2012. All paintings were done by hand using traditional tools, materials and techniques.

A bimah is an elevated platform in the centre of the synagogue for Torah reading and holding prayers during religious services.
