The International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Rzeszów

On January 27th Rzeszów will hold ceremonies marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The events have been organized by the Centre of Jewish History and Culture and the University of Rzeszów, Rzeszów Town Hall and the Rzeszów Diocese.


The ceremonies to pay homage to Holocaust victims will commence in the Jewish cemetery in Rzeszów followed by a panel discussion on Polish-Jewish relations from the perspective of the rescued and the rescuers during the Holocaust, which will be held at the Senate Room at the University of Rzeszów. The ceremonies will be closed by a religious service which will relate to the Day of Judaism in Catholic Church in Poland.

The detailed programme includes the following:

10 am – the Jewish cemetery in Rzeszów (Rejtana St.) – commemorating Holocaust victims

11:30 am – University Senate Room (16c Rejtana St.), a panel discussion attended by invitees

4:30 pm – Parish Church (5 Farny Square) The word of God sermon on the Day of Judaism in Catholic Church in Poland, combined with reading both the names of Poles from the Rzeszów region who were killed in retaliation for their help for Jews and the names of Jews who perished at that time.
