On the trail of forgotten Rybnik graveyards

This  Sunday, January 20th,  another edition ofa guided tour will take place. The upcoming walking tour will follow the trail of forgotten Rybnik cemeteries. The tour has been organized by Rybnik Town Hall and PTTK. We will meet at 12 noon at the PEAKO bank, at the intersection of Chrobrego and 3 Maja Streets.


The route:

  • A passage to the Jewish cemetery (Wieniawskiego St.), Małgorzata Płoszaj will briefly speak about the history of the cemetery, Jewish cemeteries in general and about Jewish burial customs
  • A walk along KlasztornaStreet and a visit in the Evangelical cemetery, PTTK guides will talk about the history of the cemetery
  • A walk along Miejska Street towards Kościelny square, PTTK guides will talk about the former cemetery
  • A minute of silence at the car park on Brudnionka Street, where human remains from the liquidated Jewish cemetery were disposed in 1940
  • A visit in the old cemetery on Gliwicka Street
  • A passage to the monument to the death march victims at the stadium. Małgorzata Płoszaj will talk about the dramatic history of this site.
  • A passage to the burial site of  the patients of the mental hospital and to mass graves of death march victims, guided by PTTK guides.

The walking tour may last three hours. Comfortable and warm clothes required.
