The 16th edition of the Day of Judaism

Today has started the ceremonies marking the 16th edition of the Day of Judaism in Poznań. The program of the festival, organized under the banner of ‘Ja jestem Józef, brat wasz’, includes children’s workshops, exhibitions, concerts and discussions.

Yesterday, the exhibition entitled ‘Izrael – Ziemia Obiecana. Ziemia Święta’ was inaugurated at the Raczyński library in Poznań. The exhibition presents Judaica from the library and private collections, such as coins dating back to 4 BC to contemporary times, books on Israeli contemporary poetry, on Judaism and Christianity in Israel as well as prayer objects. The Day of Judaism is accompanied by the ‘Bramy Jerozolimy’ exhibition of pastel drawings by Piotr Sztyma.

Today, youth workshops about Jewish holidays will be staged by Justyna Bartoszyńska, with references to the book entitled ‘Lekcja religii. Święta żydowskie’. In the evening, a concert by Nona-Art will take us back to the world of small Jewish shtetls.

Tomorrow Lena Piękniewska and the Soundcheck music band will give a concert called ‘Kołysanki na wieczny sen’. Lena Piękniewska’s intriguing voice plus universal values expressed in the lyrics make their music even more engrossing.

Next Monday, another concert of Jewish music by Hagada music band, will take place. On Tuesday, historian Rafał Witkowski will speak about Poznań synagogues, followed by a Wednesday debate about the common fate of Jews and Christians, which will be attended by representatives of the Polish Council of Christians and Jews, the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw and the KEP Committee for Dialogue with Judaism.

On Thursday, January 17th, a biblical mass, run by Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, will be organized at Wojciecha church (St. Adalbert church) and will be attended by members of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities. Lena Piękniewska will sing the psalms.
