What may be found at a cemetery in Szczebrzeszyn?

At the end of September Tomasz Pańczyk along with an employee of Museum of the History of Polish Jews have visited Szczebrzeszyn. The first thing they’ve seen upon visiting the town’s over 400 years old Jewish cemetery was a fence full of holes and an old, ugly gate. What really got to them, though, was a sight of trash scattered all over the site, bonfire ashes, wild weeds and even... used condoms. Shocked visitors have described their experience in a letter to various recipients, including the mayor of Szczebrzeszyn and the chief rabbi of Poland. The latter’s intervention was instantaneous – the rabbi’s office contacted the town council and the president’s office. Marian Mazur, the mayor of Szczebrzeszyn, has allegedly already responded to rabbi Schudrich’s note.
