Virtual Shtetl discovers Belarus
We would like to invite you to watch Julia Popławska’s latest short film entitled ‘Virtual Shtetl is discovering Belarus’. The movie shows Virtual Shtetl workers and collaborators’ endeavors to unearth and record the Jewish heritage in Belarus. Along with activists and scholars from Poland and Belarus, the Virtual Shtetl team visited a few dozen towns that were formerly Jewish shtetls in contemporary Belarus. The final destination of the expedition was Minsk, where workshops for Belarusian cultural activists were held.
The tour was attended by participants of the project called ‘„Creating open civil society and European identity in Belarus by means of international activities to the benefit of Jewish heritage in Eastern and Central Europe’, donated by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Poland. Among the participants there were members of Jewish communities in Belarus that also take part in the ‘New tools in education for Jewish communities in Belarus’ project.
The movie is available in three language versions, in Polish, in English and in Belarusian (see below).
The movie was made possible thanks to financial support of the US Embassy (Federal Assistance Award for the ‘Supporting transition in Belarus by promotion of good practices of preservation of Jewish heritage’ project) in Poland and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Poland (promotion of the project called ‘Creating open civil society and European identity in Belarus by means of international activities to the benefit of Jewish heritage in Eastern and Central Europe’).
