Leopold Kozłowski is the last remaining Galicia-born Klezmer musician, composer, director and pianist. He graduated from the musical academy in Lvov. For many years, he was the music director at the State Ester Rachel Kaminska Jewish Theater in Warsaw and held the same position in the Gypsy ‘Roma’ music band. Additionally, he contributed to all performances of ‘A Fiddler on the Roof’ in Poland and composed the soundtrack for the movie ‘Austeria’, by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, thanks to which Klezmer has revived. He was also the musical expert behind Dan Curtis’s ‘The Winds of War’ movie and Steven Spielberg’s ‘Schindler’s List’. The artistic merits of this ninety-four-year-old pianist and composer are enormous but, most importantly, Kozłowski is a living Jewish culture legend. He still remembers the times when a Catholic priest, a Greek Orthodox priest and a rabbi would sit next to each other in peace and the phenomenon of anti-Semitism was foreign to people. Leopold Kozłowski’s life story is the theme of Jacek Cygan’s book.

Tickets, which cost PLN 80, are available at the Opera’s office box and in Empik stores. .
