On behalf of the awardees, the medals were received by the closest members of their families. The medals were presented personally by those who were rescued or by their relatives. Katarzyna Sikora from Rzeszow saved the lives of four people, among whom were Moniek Kalb, Shalom Friedhof and Adolf Berger, escapees from the Rzeszów ghetto. She took care of them from 1943. The grandson of the deceased received the medal on her behalf. Stanislaw Grocholski from Urzejowice from Przeworsk, together with his wife Maria, harbored sixteen Jews in the attic in their house. Józef Kulpa, who was born in Ostrowiec near Lubaczow and who was a Home Army soldier, rescued the Lukawiecki and Singer Jewish families. They were active members of the partisan troops. Upon the initiative by Mr. Kulpa, a thirteen-member Jewish partisan unit was created that operated in the woods near Lubaczow and Zamosc.

Thus far, 6196 Poles have been awarded the Righteous Medal.
