The shooting work of the ‘Świętokrzyskie Sztetle’ movie completed
In a few days, the documentary movie called ‘Świętokrzyskie Sztetle’ by Paweł Gula will be released (Eng. Shtetls in the Swietokrzyskie region). This project ‘dusts off ‘ Polish-Jewish history. The movie aims to do away with negative connotations evoked by the word ‘Kielce’ and to promote the Swietokrzyskie region as an attractive region with a marvelous Jewish cultural heritage and its positive contemporary condition.
Piotr Gula is the winner of the competition that was organized by the Regional Tourist Organization (ROT). This project drew the attention of the Province Marshal Adam Łambas, who decided to support the project with the donation of over half a million zlotys. Although the movie did not meet the criteria of promoting the region and attracting more tourists, it was finally made. The movie opens with a statement from Barak Dorfman, the last living partaker of the pogrom. This man, despite his personal tragedy in his life, has no resentment against Poles. This movie is a documentary film in which young people, students from schools in Kielce and Israel, arranged meetings and visited the places where Poles and Jews had once lived side by side in harmony. The young people also talk about the past and the present day.
The “Świętokrzyszkie Sztetle” movie will be broadcasted on the Canal Plus, TVP Kultura, TVN 24 TV channels. TVN 24 already broadcasted some fragments of the movie in a TV report about the celebrations marking the anniversary of the Kielce pogrom last year. A trailer of this movie has also been made in order to promote the film on TV. The producers of the movie desire to distribute the film in schools because it is an extraordinary lesson of history and tolerance. The official presentation of the movie will take place this February at the Swietokrzyska Philharmonic.
