Andrzej Żbikowski, an East European Studies Professor at the University of Warsaw, has been a researcher at the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw since 1985. From 2007 to 2008, he was also the education and publication deputy Director at the Institute. He was Professor at the Pultusk Academy of Humanities and a leading expert in the Public Education Office of the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN). He is a member of the Center for Holocaust Studies In Poland. He has written numerous publications about the contemporary history of Polish Jews.

In 2011, the Swiat Ksiazki publishing house released Andrzej Żbikowski’s recent book entitled ‘Karski’. The book is a biography of Jan Karski (1914-2000), a member of the Union of Armed Struggle (ZWZ), and later a Home Army soldier, cooperating with the Government Delegation for Poland. This remarkably brave, wise and modest man was received by the US President Roosevelt at a private meeting. Karski told the President about the tragic fate of Polish Jews, the situation of which no one in the world was aware yet at that time. The book, as the author himself says, is an attempt to integrate the dramatic fate of Polish Jews into the political and social history of Poles under Nazi occcupation and their courageous resistance through the underground state, which was one of a kind on a worldwide scale.
