Vandalism on the Jewish cemetery in Sopot

Anti-Israeli writings appeared on a pre-war Jewish cemetery in Sopot. Among the slogans left by the unknown perpetrators on the wall and some of the headstones there were such as: “Stop the Jewish domination”, “Yesterday’s victims – today’s occupants” or a comparison of Israel to the Third Reich. What also appeared was the name of an informal “radical anti-fascist” group – Antifa. Soon after their discovery, the writings were removed; the vice-president of Sopot has officially apologized for the situation and town’s inhabitants lit the cemetery up with dozens of candles, effectively diverting general attention from the excess.

03.11.2009 – A statement signed by "fighting anti-fascists" has appeared on Antifa's website, denying any form of participation in the devastation of the cemetery. The signatories "unambiguously condemned the perpetrators".
