W latach 1920-tych w Starym Samborze mieszkało około 500 rodzin żydowskich i jeszcze 500 wyemigrowało do USA. Wtedy w miasteczku około 90% mieszkańców było Żydami, 18% Ukraińcami i 2% Polakami.
