Jewish community before 1989 – Polska / pomorskie

Translator name :Alicja Cessak

Nowy Dwór Gdański is a small town situated approx. 22 km north of Malbork (German: Marienburg/Nogat), where a Jewish community was established in the 19th century. Around 1820, the town was inhabited by only a few Jewish families. In the following years, however, several Jewish families settled in the town and the number of the community members rose to approx. 100 around 1870. Nevertheless, with the beginning of the 20th century, Jews started to leave the town and the community’s population decreased considerably [1.1].
