16.09.2010 - Third Day of the Four Cultures Festival in Łódź

 

Thursday is the third day of the Łódź of Four Cultures Festival and it is a day that is most eventful. It begins with the second part of Jewish culture workshops for kids called “Szabatowa uczta dla najmłodszych’ (“A Sabbath Feast for the Youngest”). An icon writing workshop for youths and adults called “Tajemnica ikony” (“The Mystery of Icon”) is about to start as well. 

At 4 p.m. – a preview of Andrzej Tobis’s exhibition entitled “A-Z (gabloty edukacyjne)” (“A-Z (educational showcases”). Tobis has created an impressive cycle of photographs (we are going to show nearly 200 of them) that illustrate entries of the “Bildwörterbuch Deutsch und Polnisch” (“German and Polish Picture Dictionary”) by Duden, published in 1954 in Lipsk. The exhibition will be available for visitors until October 16 in the heritage museum (Polish: skansen) of the Centralne Muzeum Włókiennictwa (Central Textile Museum), 282 Piotrkowska Street. Admission is free.

Also at 4 p.m. in the Szafa club (ul. Rewolucji 1905 r. nr 10/ 10 Rewolucji 1905 Street) the other of two literary encounters, “Ksenia Starosielska. Tłumaczka i jej pisarze” (“Ksenia Starosielska. A Translator and Her Writers”). A prominent translator of Polish literature into Russian will meet with the writers whose works she has translated. Ksenia Starosielska is tied with the city of Łódź. Her grandmother ran a dentist’s office in Piotrkowska Street and grandfather taught Greek and Latin in a junior high school in Łódź.

“Powidoki” (“Afterimages”) is a spectacle of Teatr Telewizji (Television Theater) telling the story of Katarzyna Kobro and Władysław Strzemiński. The performance has not been shown on television yet but has already received a few important awards. It will be shown in a branch of the Art Museum in Manufaktura. After the performance there will be a meeting with the director Maciej Wojtyszko and most important performers: Nina Czerkies and Mariusz Wojciechowski. An outstanding painter and graphic designer Stanisław Fijałkowski, a resident of Łódź who knew and co-operated with Kobro and Strzemiński (Fijałkowski was his student), has confirmed his attendance during the show. The character of Stanisław Fijawłkowski is played in the spectacle by a Łódź actor, Andrzej Mastelarz.

At 6 p.pm. - the second day of the review of Soviet films directed by Grigorij Aleksandrow. We welcome everyone to the Cytryna movies (ul. Pomorska 39/41/ 39/41 Pomorska Street) to watch the comedy “Wołga, Wołga”.

A British, Jonathan Plowright, an expert in Polish music and its propagator will play a recital at the Łódź Philharmonic (7 p.m.) consisting of pieces by Fryderyk Chopin and Ignacy Jan Paderewski.

“Ostatniego takiego ojca” (“The last such father”) spectacle by Artur Pałyga performed by Scena Prapremier inVitro (InVitro Preview Stage) in Lublin (produced by Łukasz Witt-Michałowski) will be shown at 9 p.m. in the Wytwórnia Klub in ul. Łąkowa 29 (29 Łąkowa Street). The performance was awarded in the XV Ogólnopolski Konkurs Munistra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego na Wystawienie Polskiej Sztuki Współczesnej (15th Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Polish Contest for the Performance of Polish Contemporary Art), in the VIII Festiwal Prapremier (8th Preview Festival) in Bydgoszcz and in the Festiwal Sztuki Reżyserskiej “Interpretacje” (“Interpretations” Art of Stage Management Festival) in Katowice. The performance represented Poland in the international festival in Wiesbaden Neue Stücke aus Europa.

The day will finish in the same place at 11 p.m. Lech Dybnik, a famous character actor, will play Russian prison, street and bandit songs. “Błatnyje piesni” („Bandit Songs”) are his favorites.
