FESTIVAL OF FOUR CULTURES 2010 - Hanoch Levin "Szyc” / BARAKAH Theater in Kraków

A world-famous play of one of the Israeli most prominent playwrights of the 20th century, Hanoch Levin (1943–99), known in Poland mostly as the author of “Krum.” “Szyc” tells about the dark side of human psyche, about initiation and maturing to love.

Nowicka has created a performance of multilayered poetics, balancing between a musical and modern opera. “Szyc” touches upon seemingly prosaic problems, emphasizes negative aspects of society. Yet, it does not end with contestation, but makes the recipient reflect upon morality and cross-culturality, which is one of the main goals of the BARAKAH Theater.

The music to the play was written by Renata Przemyk, bohemist by profession, a famous Polish singer and composer who is keenly interested in the changes occurring in contemporary theater.
