Krosno jest miastem na prawach powiatu – powiat grodzki w województwie podkarpackim, i siedzibą władz powiatu krośnieńskiego. Położone jest przy ujściu rzeki Lubatówki do Wisłoka, na obszarze Kotliny Jasielsko-Krośnieńskiej, wchodzącej w skład Beskidu Niskiego.
