Alfred Grotte (1872-1944, died in a concentration camp in Terezin) - professor, historian, conservator and architect. He was one of the people responsible for the actual construction and functioning of the Jewish Museum in Wrocław. He was an authority in the field of research on Jewish cultural relics, especially traditional art. He was interested in the art of Eastern European Jewry and delivered numerous lectures on this topic at various cultural institutions, schools and museums. He also guided educational tours through those Śląsk (Silesia) cities which had Jewish past. He researched Jewish cemeteries and synagogues in the Śląsk (Silesia) region, especially in Biała and Brzeg.
