W 1816 roku w Grodnie mieszkało 8422 Żydów (85% całej populacji),
w 1859 r. — 10 300 Żydów (53%),
w 1887 r. — 27 343 Żydów (68,7%),
w 1897 r. — 22 684 Żydów (48,4%),
w 1910 r. — 31 055 Żydów.
W 1959 roku według danych spisu w Grodnie mieszkało 1783 Żydów (2,4% wszystkich mieszkańców),
w 1970 r. — 1873 (1,4%),
w 1979 r. — 1745 Żydów (0,8%).
Pod koniec lat 80-tych XX wieku i na początku wieku XXI zanotowano gwałtowny spadek ludności żydowskiej z powodu wyjazdu dużej ilości Żydów do Izraela, USA, Niemiec i innych krajów. W 1999 roku zgodnie ze spisem powszechnym na Białorusi w Grodnie mieszkało 609 Żydów. W 2005 roku w Grodnie mieszkało 1269 Żydów (0,4 % mieszkańców)
