Dzierżoniów – a town and a municipality in the Dolnoslaskie Province (Lower
Silesia), seat of the County
of Dzierżoniów. It is situated
south-west of Wroclaw,
in the Dzierzoniow
Valley, at the foot of the
Sowie Mountains from the south and the
Ślężański Massif from the north, on the Pilawa River.
Dzierżoniów lies in the eastern part of Podsudeckie Depression between the
Bielawa and Łagiewniki hills. It is one of the largest centers of cotton and
machine
industry in Lower Silesia. In the
period of 1975-1998 the town belonged administratively to the Wałbrzych Province.
According to data from 19
October 2007, the population of Dzierżoniów numbered 35,300.
