Situated in the central eastern part of the Świętokrzyskie Province, at the crossroads of Kielce-Tarnów and Staszów-Jędrzejów routes, on the Wschodnia River (a right tributary of the Czarna Staszowska River) and on the border of the Szydłowiec Foothills and the Polaniec Basin, the town of Chmielnik has a population of 4000 (2007).
