11.2010 - Bielski Hostinec, a history entirely devoted to Bielsk Podlaski Jews

Bielski Hostineć, a history entirely devoted to the story of Bielsk Podlaski Jews, has been recently published. Before World War 2, Bielsk Podlaski was one of the biggest centers of Jewish settlement in Podlachia. However, the history of local Jews remains practically unexplored. The newest publication fills the gap in the description of Bielsk Podlaski history.

The journal records the history of Jewish settlement in Bielsk, the fate of famous Jews from Bielsk and people saved from the Holocaust. It also contains historical documents published for the first time from the Grodno State Archive and the collections from Yad Vashem. The articles are accompanied by unique photographs found in private archives, as well as in the national archives of Germany, Israel and USA. There is also a map of Bielsk from before 1945 with ghetto borders and key institutions of Jewish life marked on it.

At the beginning of November, on the 68th anniversary of the liquidation of the Bielsk ghetto, a presentation of the latest issue of Bielski Hostineć will take place. It is connected to the unveiling of the information board on the history of Bielsk Jews, situated in the place of the already nonexistent synagogue at Kazimierzowska street.
