A school for Jewish students

Jewish community before 1989 – Education
Polska / małopolskie

The Jewish community supported a school for Jewish children until 1879. Rabbi Dr Józek Kobak and his deputy taught in the school. The fact that a school was established in such a small kehilla may indicate that the Jews were discriminated against at that time. Only after the reforms introduced in the second half of the 19th century were the Jews granted equal rights, while after 1879, when one public school was established for both the Jewish and Polish children alike, the Jewish students could learn the history and religion of their country.
